System requirements
b1gMail runs fine on conventional shared webspace with PHP and MySQL
— you do not need an own dedicated root server to create email addresses
and receive emails as required by many other webmail solutions.
This is achieved by a clever receiving method, which uses your domain's catch
all function. The count of email addresses which can be created in b1gMail is
not limited by the count of email addresses provided by your web hosting package
because b1gMail creates the email addresses "virtually" and manages
them itself.
A graphical, web-based setup wizard guides you through the installation process.
HTTPMail and WebDAV
b1gMail comes with an HTTPMail interface which allows you to fetch your emails
using Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express / Windows Mail and Entourage.
Your Webdisk can be accessed through the WebDAV protocol which is supported
by most operating systems and enables you to use your Webdisk like a
conventional network drive.
Even for these features, no dedicated root server is required —
PHP (installed as Apache module) and MySQL are sufficient.
POP3, IMAP and SMTP
In case you do down a dedicated root server, you can install the b1gMailServer add on
(included with your b1gMail license in a Standard edition, an advanced Professional
edition can be bought separately) to provide POP3, IMAP and SMTP access to the
mailboxes of your b1gMail installation. The add on can be administrated from the
b1gMail ACP and features many configuration possibilities and detailed statistics.
